Creating a Digital Video Sequence: Unit 314

The Brief:


Be able to plan to record a digital video to a client brief

To do this your tasks will include the following:

1) Identify client requirements based on their brief to include the target audience
The Shake Shop/Shed
You will need to decide
·       Who the client will be
·       What the product is
Flavoured Shakes 
You will need to Write
A client Brief (this will be what the client wants to include in the advertisement)

It must include the following:
·       A range of video clips, graphics, text and two audio tracks (from ambient sounds, voice-overs, sound effects, music)
·       Titles and credits which may be animated or static
·       At least two video effects
·       At least two video transitions
·       Composition of graphic over video


Produce a series of Advertisements to Promote the healthy and fun aspects of flavoured shakes (fruit based)

Candidates should develop a range of 3 ideas to show to the client, these may be evidenced as mood boards, spider diagrams as applicable.
Write a paragraph stating how your ideas meet 

Planning & Research Task 1: Video sequence

Task 1: Investigate digital video solutions 
Assessment Criterion 1 

a) Research and describe the current and historical concepts and principles of video 
recording to include

  • their purpose 
  • the genre and visual style 
  • target audiences 


b) Compare and contrast camera techniques used to record footage including 

  • movement 
  • angles 
  • shots 
  • focus 
  • multiple cameras  
  • format

Task 2: Plan to record a digital video to a client brief 

Assessment Criterion 2 

You may use the Planning and Evaluation Form (provided at the back of the assignment) or 
an electronic equivalent, to record the activities in addition to the project plan that you will 
undertake for this task. 

a) Identify client requirements based on their brief to include the target audience 
  
b) Generate a range of original ideas for the video and review with the client, identifying 
the length, content and production considerations  

c) Review the range of original ideas with the client and fully plan the agreed solution

d) Create and maintain a project plan to include  

  • tasks 
  • timescales  
  • resources

e) Create a pre-production storyboard of sketches that incorporates a range of camera 
shots, angles and movement

f) Create the production schedule for all aspects of the video recording

g) Obtain and prepare the assets and resources for the recording of digital video 
footage

h) Identify key stages, health & safety, production constraints and contingency planning

i) Describe the legal and ethical issues regarding all aspects of digital video recording 

    Filming and Construction Task 3: Video sequence

    Task 3: Record and test the digital video 
    Assessment Criterion 3 

    a) Record footage in line with the planned pre-production

    b) Import and check the video and sound clips

    c) Create and edit the video sequence combining multiple video files to meet client 
    requirements

    d) Add transitions and titles to the video sequence

    e) Synchronise the sound track with the video sequence cord or source sound files

    f) Create and use a detailed test plan to check for video playback, display, audio levels 
    and effects

    g) Correct any identified editing faults and retest using the test plan

    h) Identify and select a suitable output format and compression codec

    i) Save and export the video in the required format as specified by the client brief 

    j) Organise electronic files using appropriate naming conventions to facilitate access by 
    others 

    Evaluation Task 4: Video Sequence

    Task 4: Evaluate the final video cut against the original brief 
    Assessment Criterion 4 

    You may use your Planning and Evaluation Form to: 

    a) Identify parameters and constraints that influenced any decisions that were made
      
    b) Critically evaluate the quality of the finished product and its fitness for purpose

    c) Evaluate the video with the client and analyse feedback
      
    d) Identify areas for improvement and further development of the video, using your own 
    critical evaluation and the analysis of client feedback
      
    e) Review the technical and aesthetic qualities of the final outcome 

    You should submit original assets and final products, with any explanations identifying 
    changes to your plan.  Where applicable, save and submit relevant intermediary versions of 
    files, and include these only if they support the finished product.
